Why some Graphic Designers Hate Adobe?

 I mean, it's their tool of trade for life, and they hate it. Quite some ironic situation. 

Me included? Maybe, but currently not in the mood. 

After 15+ years running the freelance business by using the app suite and owning from a slow device to a decent PC and Mac device, I can tell where Adobe is hated at. 

Pricing and confusing business strategy.

I know, Adobe subscription is relatively expensive, especially for newcomers, new freelancers and even small studio. Let alone hobbyist. No, just no. Hobbyist better do not use Adobe, or at least do not buy Adobe subscription. It is definitely not worth the money. Affinity is there for you, it is free (at least for now).


However, as of this article is written, Adobe All Apps for individual subscription costs US$69.99... let's just say US$70. It is actually relatively moderate price for professional grade app and you get a whole house of Adobe powerhouse such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, PremierePro, etc. I think pro studios or moderate experienced designer can afford it. One project completion should be more than suffice to pay the monthly subscription. Though I can say amateurs who happy to send invoice of logo design project for $10 will say otherwise. 

This implies that Adobe is filtering out new graphic designer, business starters, new freelancers, etc. Ideally, this is quite normal in business practice. They are focusing on targeting a middle to high paying customer. Targeting these level of customer will usually focus on quality and maintaining high margin profit.

But this is where Adobe business strategy looks confusing.

Adobe's recent app marketing direction is targeted more into some new users and novices who wants to try Adobe. The apps, when you do fresh install, will be bombardized by some basic tutorials, simple and easy tips, and some instant AI magic. This is something non-existent in the past, where you are left figuring out yourself with dozens of tutorials online. On their social media, there are deeper and more frequent posts of doing simple basic stuff with Adobe apps. They try to attract youngsters to use their apps, and trying so hard to show how easy and cool it is to do. They try to ask these potential people to move away from Canva and some cheap graphic mobile apps.

Wait until they found out that Adobe is full of pricey items, lol. You want some teenagers to suck some Adobe Photoshop subscription for $20 a month? Trying to replace Canva with a buggy and more expensive Adobe Express? Asking for them to ditch the free Capcut or Davinci Resolve and trapped them with hefty Premiere Pro subscription? 

None of their pricing making any sense for beginners. Yet trying so hard to attract these people. 

While their current pricing keeps going up at a meteoric speed that start inviting more hate from their subscribing customers.

What Adobe is trying to do? Gaining more hate?
